New FS 380

Postby Don » Fri Feb 22, 2019 3:42 pm

I have always been leery of zamak guns chambered in 380 or 9mm because of the durability issues with them. But for some time now I've been interested in the FS 380 because of its robust structure. As a result I dropped a kings ransom of $130 on one today. The dealer had American Eagle 95 grain fmj's which is recommended for this gun and out the door I went. I took it home, cleaned it up, polished the feed ramp a little and lubed it and out to the woods I went. I was aware that it has a magazine capacity of 7 rounds but my experience is that these guns rarely do well with a full mag at least at first so I only loaded 6. Well, it didn't like 6 either as it stove piped. I backed off to five rounds and it functioned flawlessly. Accuracy was acceptable at about 15 feet. I only ran two mags through it confident that it is unlikely to be a jam-0-matic. I'll give a more extensive range report when I can spend some more time shooting it.

I always felt the Cobra FS380 was a step up from its Lorcin L380 predecessor.
Looking forward to your impressions of your new gun!

The factory mags could be better. I really attribute some of the failures to the mags. Wow, just chintzy. I really wish they would make magazines that you can easily take apart to clean. This might be the only instance in history of mankind that a TripleK magazine proved to be an upgrade over a factory design.

I've got an old Lorcin 380 that runs great with those aftermarket magazines and Remington green box FMJ ammo. It'll go through about a box flawlessly, then it will get dirty (I'm thinking its dirt causing it) and start to stovepipe.

Well said, and IMO you're 100% spot on.
