Questions about my latest Cobra CA380

Postby W Stone » Thu Jul 14, 2016 11:09 pm

I just bought a CA380 that appears to be one of the first made by Cobra. The logos on the slide are inset a bit, and the serial number is really low. CP0015xx low. Also there is no CE on the grips. There is no bumper below the barrel, just a spring. There is no hole for a pin to retain the bumper, as there is with my Davis P380. I know the Davis bumper is a different design than the Cobra bumper. Does anybody else here have a very early CA? Does it have a bumper?

Whoa, that sure is a very low serial number Cobra!
Does it have a recess in the frame below the barrel for the bumper?

I don't have a really old one but I'd love to see some pictures.

The recess cut below the barrel is just big enough for the spring.

That is a really rough casting! Either that or the paint is sifferent now than it used to be. I didn't think my grandad's P380 looked like that.

Very cool piece though and I've never seen a CA with that roll mark. I'd keep it and not shoot it just because of the low serial number and slide.

It's a Cobra so it'll probably always be cheap but the cool factor is there for guys like me. I also like how they seemingly just dremeled off the Davis Industries mark on the grips and kept selling them. I love SNS and this is new to me.

I think they just made a little plate with their info on it and put it in the mold.
My bumper hole looks like the one in the picture. I contacted Cobra, and they are sending a new bumper and all new springs.

Does that have an evidence number scrawled on the right side?
