Lorcin L-380 with a cracked frame

Postby Flowmaster » Sat Nov 24, 2018 6:31 pm

I found this while cruising around on gunbroker.

The frame cracked at the top of the magwell. Have you folks seen a failure like this before? The Phoenix HP22 and HP22A sometimes crack in the same location.

Never seen a Lorcin L380 crack in that location.

Question: Who would buy a Lorcin with a cracked frame for $29.00 and pay $29.99 to have it shipped to their FFL, where they'll incur upwards of $25 transfer fees?

Exactly, and that's why it has no bids. Somebody needing parts would be better off buying a parts kit from everygunpart.com and not dealing with the FFL transfer for a gun they probably shouldn't even shoot.

Frame crack is in a similar place that the JA-Nine frame has cracked. :(

True, but in all the time we've been on this forum, have any of us seen a crack like that on a Lorcin 380?

That's the first one of those I've seen fail like that.

Now... if someone stuffed an L9 or J-Nine barrel into the L-380 frame and manually loaded it and then fired it...

Naw, nobody here would ever try such a thing. It'd be dangerous and, well, dumb.

I have an l32 frame with the same crack. Now... there is no way a 32acp will crack a frame like that IMO so I think it is the result of presure being applied and the safety pushing in on the frame in the thin area under the safety. Say the gun was stepped on, thrown, or run over. The safety on these old lorcins is zamak and thicker than the frame. So the frame cracks.

I took mine and cut out the crack and radiused it. It can no longer use the awesome quality and perfectly engineered lorcin safety but it should still go boom boom kapow well and be safe. Its on the project list. I have a stripped slide with no sights I will probably use. Too bad because I will loose all that long distance accuracy that Lorcins inherently have by design.
