HP25 with 5" barrel

Postby adam01364 » Fri May 05, 2017 4:40 pm

For a brief time, Phoenix arms offered a range kit with a 5" barrel in .25 ACP. I don't know when or why they stopped making the 5" barrel, but for whatever reason, they dropped it from the line. One of our forum members (Boomer92266) was looking at one at a gun shop, but never reported back whether or not he bought it. About four years ago, I was able to procure a 5" barrel in black off Gunbroker, and I thought I'd never see one again.

A few days ago I was poking around Gunbroker -not really looking for anything in particular, if you can believe that- when I stumbled across this HP25 with a 5" barrel being offered as a parts gun. The starting bid was only $40, and shipping was a very reasonable $10. I ended up getting it for $62 shipped. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/642981287

The seller doesn't elaborate on what's wrong with the gun, but I've got quite a few spare parts so I'm pretty sure I can fix whatever ails it. If not, I can always send it back to the mother ship.

Since eventually the links to Gunbroker auctions go away, here are a few pics.

That 5 inch barrel should get the little 50 grain bullets going about 900 feet per second. Still no thunder bolt but a better penetrator and therefore more effective as a self defense tool. I always wondered why I never saw the HP 25 with a 5 inch barrel. You'll have to shoot it over a chronograph and tell us how it did.

I thought it would be interesting to chronograph both the HP22 and HP25 with their respective 3 and 5 inch barrels. Now if I only had a chronograph... :(

What a steal.

I had an issue with one of the HP25s one time where the grip on the right side was bent/curled up and it messed with the trigger linkage. A new set of grips was an easy fix, but I bet a Hogue Handall, a piece of bicycle inner tube, or (for those who really love watching COPS) a few layers of electrical tape would've done the trick.

Got the gun and the hammer was locked back and the trigger wouldn't do a thing. It was completely jammed.
Took it apart, didn't see anything wrong other than it was dry as a bone.

Put it back together, lubed it all up, and it works just fine now.

Amazing what happens when someone who knows what they are doing puts one back together correctly with a little cleaning and lube.
Congrats.
