Is there a complete HP-22 disassembly tutorial out there?

Postby adam01364 » Sun Aug 05, 2012 10:29 am

Like the title says, I'm looking for a complete HP-22 teardown tutorial. Everything that I've found so far is either a) a simple field strip, b) switching barrels, or c) how-to deactivate the various lawyer-inspired safeties. What I'm talking about is a complete tear down -to the bare frame.

Have you checked Mousegunner's site? He had a bunch on the Phoenix 22 and 25.

Nope, I'm not talking about a schematic. What I'm looking for is a tutorial, a "how to git 'er done"; something like Flowmaster did here on this forum for the J-22 viewtopic.php?f=20&t=71 or like was posted on RimfireCentral for the Ruger SR-22: http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/sh ... p?t=429069

Well, it's happened, the trigger has failed on my HP-22. :( Guess I'll be dealing with this sooner than I thought. I was about 16 rounds into plinkertude when the trigger stayed back, failing to return even with a light bit of prying. This would happen before -the trigger would stick back but it always returned to allow me to fire another round.

Adam, How many rounds do you have through it? That sucks!! Maybe they would send you the parts instead of requiring you to ship it and wait.

I've got approximately 3,000 rounds through it, but it wasn't new when I got it. I'm bummed.

I have stripped mine down, with the exception of the mag release button and the trigger. It is really straight forward thing to do. Only reason I haven't taken the mag release out is that it is a one time use thing, and I have never had an issue with the trigger that required it to be removed. If you have the basic tools - pokey things, grabby things, magnifier, light - and take your time it is easy to disassemble and reassemble. Sorry I haven't really helped you in any way, other than just trying to encourage you to take the plunge

Thanks for the encoragement Lost Californian! :) The sticking trigger was why I was looking for a teardown tutorial; I was palnning on being proactive instead of reactive. :| Fortunately I do have all the basic tools and may be taking the plunge. But first I'm going to contact Phoenix as this gun was never registered (I have the original box and all the paperwork) so perhaps they'll send me the parts for free. If they insist on seeing the gun, my LGS has been very helpful with shipping and doing FFL transfers. I really like the HP22 inspite of all the lawyer safeties, it's a nice gun that for me -up until most recently- has worked very well.
