RG23 in chrome

Postby lost californian » Thu Nov 19, 2015 1:28 pm

Hey all

I have a nice RG23 that is chrome, but alas, no cylinder. I purchased what Numrich called a chrome cyllinder (complete) only to find out that it is NOT a cylinder for an RG23 - much larger in all dimensions, length + diameter, so it just won't work. Anyone ever seen a chrome RG23 before, or have a lead on a chrome cylinder? Thanks

Dumb question but r u sure it's an rg23 and not just something with rg23 grips, sorry not exactly sure of frame markings on these guns iirc the only name /model on my 14 is the plate on the grip

Yeah, the frame I have is an RG, verified by the markings on the frame itself. It is the cylinder that is not correct. I will be calling Jack First today, see what they have available. I need a trigger spring and a hand spring, plus two grip screws, for my other RG23, along with the chrome cylinder.

Differences are not that noticeable, until you try to fit in the frame. I suppose it is possible that the factory tolerances were that big, just don't know. When I put the blue cylinder into the chrome frame, it is too small. The spacing between the cylinder and the frame is excessive and it will not ignite the rounds. Load 6, pull hammer 18 times, might get 3 to fire. The chrome one barely fits between forcing cone and frame, and hits metal to metal when trying to open it. Timing is off, too, have to advance it a hair to get the cylinder to lock up.

Well, no luck on a chrome cylinder yet.

There is a problem tho....won't reliably fire in double action mode. Single action works well, have maybe one in 3 cylinders misfire using Aguila ammo. In DA, heh, good luck. No rhyme or reason for when it fires. I have stripped it down and cleaned it up, all parts present and accounted for, all in good condition. Added 3 small washers to the main spring, trigger pull is stout, now, but no better ignition in DA.

Any suggestions?

I can get a chrome trigger and hammer from Numrich, and right now they have a complete trigger guard with the spring I need the most. Spring itself seems to always be out of stock, so getting the complete guard seems to be the way to get the blued gun running again.

Is the cylinder rubbing on the barrel stub inside the frame?
