Taurus PT 709?

Postby Dave_H » Thu Jan 19, 2017 6:44 am

Got a chance to pick one up on sale, new for about $218
tax included. Heard and read some good reviews, but aside
from that, I don't know. Thinking about it.
Lowest price point on a NIB 9mm that wasn't a Hi Point,
Jimenez, or Cobra derringer. Or at least as far as I can
remember seeing at any time in my recent memory.

The few owners of them I have known seem to like them.

That's a pretty good deal. Some distributors are doing deals where if you buy several the price drops significantly. One of the FFLs I work for is buying them right now at a little over $180 each brand new.

The PT111 is coming down in price. Double stack, 2 mags, and about the same money. The 709 would be good for carry as its a single stack and pretty slim little gun. The PT111 would be a good range toy.

I have looked at the 111 also. I've seen positive reviews
on them. I already have the needs covered in my rebuilt
gun collection, so I can afford to give in to curiosity. So,
I keep looking around. Just depends on what shiny thing
catches my eye.

I have both the 709 &111. Same size except the 111 is a little thicker. Both shot fine but I like the pt111 better. Especially the capacity.

I've never shot the 111, but it is probably a little more comfortable to shoot. Having a wider frame gives the shooter more surface area to disperse recoil. Double stack 9s are usually a bit more comfortable for me anyway, that's part of the reason I love the SCCY pistols.

Oh man I wanted to love my sccy cpx-2 so much it hurt. I had many issues with the trigger and sold it off once repaired. I really want to get a orange cpx-1 but now I see a bunch of guys have had issues with frame cracks at the rear.

Saw a dude open carrying a 709 yesterday. That is the most recent experience I have with them!

Anecdotal, but it seems like I see a lot more open carry now,
compared to eight or ten years ago.
