Taurus PT709 Slim

Postby FordMan59 » Wed Apr 12, 2017 10:44 am

Just bought my first Taurus, a PT 709 Slim. Whittaker's had them on sale for $169.99. I was really surprised they had them for that price. I'd recently seen other places running them on sale for $199.99 on a pretty regular basis. I found out Academy would price match plus beat the advertised price by 5% so I bought it at Academy. Academy was also about 15 miles closer to home than Whittaker's. Was out the door for $171.18. Now I have to give it a good cleaning and run a few rounds through it and see how it performs. Everyone I've consulted about the 709 has had good things to say about them with the exception of most not liking all the take up in the trigger before it hits the breaking point near the end of travel. I'd considered getting an M&P Shield in 9mm but decided I'd try the Taurus since reviews were good and there was a $150. difference in price. Still the M&P Shield is a good buy right now with the $75 manufactures rebate they have going on.

The Taurus 709 Slim and the Taurus PT111 G2 Millenium Pro are both getting just dirt cheap right now. I can't believe they can be making much on each gun.

I've noticed a lot of firearms are selling for less post-election. Sounds like a great deal on the Taurus, congrats!

The Taurus pistols have been going down in price for quite awhile now, at least since last summer. Even if their QC leaves alot to be desired that's a pretty darn good deal, especially for the casual gun owner. My boss carries a new style Millenium Pro, she got it for around $230.00 a couple of years ago. I doubt she fires it much, maybe a few times a year. She can consistently make palm size groups at 7 yards which is all you need for protection. For her, this pistol is about ideal.

On top of the great price Taurus also includes a free one year membership the NRA so if you take the cost of that into consideration it brings the price of the gun down to just over $135. I too have noticed that the price of firearms seems to be coming down since the election, hopefully it will continue.
