ejector on ja and j22's

Postby Don » Tue May 22, 2018 3:06 pm

So I have cleaned these guns several times just by field stripping and cleaning the slide, frame and barrel. I have never removed the sear or ejector. Is it necessary and if so how is it done?

I've never removed the ejector. I suppose I could, but never saw the need.
The sear is another matter, I routinely pull it out and clean it as well as the area it resides in on the frame. (Q-tips work well)

To remove the sear, take off the right grip. Next, place your thumb on the sear and gently remove the cam (see pic below).
I clean the sear, the sear spring, and the pistol frame.

Re-installation is the reverse, put the spring into the sear, put the sear into the frame, hold the sear down with your thumb, and install the cam. Be careful that the sear and sear spring don't go shooting off somewhere. Don't pull on the trigger until the grip in screwed back on, the grip helps hold the cam on the frame.

Adam thanks for the reply but I still don't see how you can get the sear out with the ejector in place. The arm of the sear is trapped under the ejector.

You're right! That was one heckuva brainfart I had; I dunno what I was thinking! Sorry!!!

Okay, on the frame under the ejector, you should see a small hole, and there's a pin inside it.

Drive it partially out (the hole goes all the way thru the frame) to free the ejector. You'll be able to life the ejector out.
Re-installation is the reverse; make sure the pin is back in fully or it will interfere with the slide.

It's the same regardless whether you have the sliding safety or the pop up safety.

adamo1364 sez,,,"Be careful that the sear and sear spring don't go shooting off somewhere."

Would using a cardboard box to reassemble a pistol be useful in catching flying parts?????

Cardboard box, plastic bag, either one would be good to use.

For just basic cleaning I see no need to remove either one. You should have plenty of room to clean and oil it in place.
