Painting front sight

Postby runandshoot » Sun Jun 07, 2015 8:38 pm

I am thinking of painting the front sight on my JA 22. Has anyone ever done this? It is small.and I am thinking that it might be helpful.

I've never done it on a J22 or JA22, but I have on some other guns. I used my girlfriend's white nail polish. I had to do 2 or 3 coats to make it really white/bright, but it worked just fine. The contrast of a white sight onto a black bullseye made it easier for me to see.

They sell sight paint at a lot of gun shows. I've never used the stuff.

Mine had been painted before I got it. It helps with targwt acquisition but looks tacky.

I've also used fingernail polish on front sights. It works pretty nicely. Just choose a color that suits the purpose.

My JA22 is black on black too and I can not see the front sight well at all at the indoor range I go to.

Should I mess with WhiteOut to paint the front sight or got directly with nail polish? I presume either will come off with the usual gun cleaning solvent or polish remover.... but will it leave a mark/stain of some kind?

Should I paint the entire rears slanting surface for the forward sight! Or something less like just a line on the tip, or ....?

What works best for you guys?

I have a black slide that came into my possession with the sights painted white. Definitely easier to acquire the target.
