JA-22 Jamming - Failure to Feed

Postby jimwatson7 » Mon Jun 06, 2016 2:49 pm

.-1st outing with JA-22 at indoor range - not good . Cleaned JA-22 with Gunslick and lightly oiled slide - But could not get past 2nd round without a jam - made it through 2 full clips only without a failure to feed (shot about 50 rounds all together) - no problems with ejection - bullet in downward position on failure to feed - using CCI Mini Mags roundnose 40 grain as suggested by Sootch in his yahoo review. Will get Frog Lube and try one more box of Mini Mags soon. Have heard others mention running 100-200 rounds for breakin and clean with Frog Lube. Any other ideas before i have to turn this one back in to the dealer ? I did find a great range though in North Atlanta - Sandy Springs Gun Club & Range , 8040 Roswell Rd, Sandy Springs, GA 770-394-4867. Thanks.

These guns aren't too hard to get working yourself, have you tried loading less rounds in the mag, this is the only way I can get my L22 to work reliably,a lot of guys are goin to chime in saying polish the feed ramp, bend mag lips, etc which usually help or fix it,but I say one or two less rounds in the mag first,if this works use it to get past that break in period, then try full mags and if same, proceed with feed ramp polishing or mag lip adjustment?.part of the fun with these sns guns is getting them to work good,lol..not what u wanna hear if u bought your ja22 new,I saying sending back to the factory should be last resort, hopefully the rest of the gang will give tips on what to do(how to polish, use a rag around some needle noses while bending lips,etc).... Oh yeah, welcome to the forum!!!

Nice to have you here Jim. Is your JA-22 new? Sounds like your mag springs may be stiff or something is going on with the feed lips or mag body. Does it happen with both mags that came with the pistol? New JA guns ship with two mags. I would try leaving both mags fully loaded for a few days. You can also try loading them and then hand cycling rounds through the gun to help get everything broken in. Obviously this is something you would do with the gun pointed in a very safe direction as .22 LR ammo can slam fire, i.e. outdoors with the gun pointed towards soft dirt or sand. If this doesn't work I would just call Jimenez, they will probably be happy to replace your mags.

I would try one less round in the mag (5 instead of 6) for at least 200 rounds thru each mag.

I agree with hand cycling loaded rounds through it. Just FYI, it's very easy to remove the firing pin first to prevent "accidents", but I still urge you to point at a safe backdrop, even with the firing pin removed.

I also have a new JA 22 and am having similar problems. I've run about 200 minimags through it, polished the feed ramp and let the mags sit loaded for days. After I polished the hard edge off the top of the feed ramp the failure to ejects improved but failure to feeds persisted. Loading five rounds makes it much more reliable but not 100%. I'd like to be able to run 3 mags through this thing with zero issues before I put it in my carry rotation. Any further suggestions guys?

Very light sandpaper along contact points is something I have used both on a J22 and a Kel Tec P40. It helped a lot with feeding. Whatever you do don't get carried away.

I have taken both the firing pin and recoil spring out and hand cycled .22lr pointed toward the ground before too. It does help show you exactly where the bullet is encountering resistance.

OK, I ran some fine emery cloth over the contact surfaces and followed up with some fine steel wool over that being very judicious to not take a lot off. Also took out the firing pin and hand cycled a full magazine through the gun several times. Not sure when I'll get to the range to see if the fluff and buff worked but I will report back any results.

Hope it helps. With the right ammo my J22 would run almost 100%. There were still rimfire related issues but nothing I'd attribute to the gun. A few lightly loaded rounds out of a couple bulk packs, nothing to get too upset over.
