What is most reliable J-22

Postby Bulldog1 » Thu Jul 19, 2018 12:25 pm

I think I need a J-22 to add to my small collection. The only one I ever had was about 30 years ago and I think it's time for another. So what should I be looking for or does it really matter.

That's a good question. Other than the safety, the basic design of the gun has remained the same.

There were some who said a chrome plated J-22 is more durable -because the plating adds strength. IMHO that's questionable.

What I have seen is that barrels with the larger extractor cutout (#1 in the pic) tend to work better for me. As you can see in the pic extractor cutouts vary a great deal. BTW, barrel #1 is from an early J-22. And since we are talking used pistols, watch for peened barrels from dry-firing.

I have a gloss black, up/down safety, J-22 that needs a new home. It is a Irvine, CA version.
Would let it go for $70, shipped.
I still can't do pics here but can email them.

Jeff, Thanks for letting me know about the one you have for sale, but I have to wait until at least next month. So right now I am just looking for input.

The most reliable J22 I have is an early chromed gun with the sliding safety.

From what I can tell, the late model Bryco made J-22's are the best. My well worn example is very reliable and accurate. The Jimenez guns are very hit and miss, they do seem better than they used to be though.
