Postby 84minieldo » Sun Nov 02, 2014 11:40 pm

So I got some projects from a friend, they were his dads who lived in galveston(coastal) who had been blind for some time then his house was mostly destroyed by hurricane Ike...well these guys sat for years now and I wanna make em function, some may not be safe to shoot due to HEAVY pitting, but I wanna make able to be taken apart and hand cycle at least, Martin gonna cry some more, what should I soak these in to help break up the rust? Here's a military issue 1911 poor thing Image Image

That 1911 looks restorable to me. Here's a worse-looking one brought back to life from another forum:

It may give you some ideas.

I've seen 1911s that were way worse than yours be resurrected. The link that ampersand just posted was one I had bookmarked. He just beat me to it!

You really scored with these guns.

Damn! That's an earlier one, too :( Like pre-1914.

Another candidate for the "less is more" approach. The less scrubbing, the better. See the Luger thread for a good soaking solution.
