Bryco M48 - finally!

Postby adam01364 » Sun Jul 19, 2015 2:27 pm

Got enough parts to build myself a Bryco M48. Not pretty, but it'll do.
Here are some pics comparing it to a J-Nine and a J-22
Profile-wise it's the same as a J-Nine; but since it's a single stack, it's thinner.

You can see where Jennings prepped the frame and slide to accommodate 22LR. There's a slot in the frame for the ejector, and a corresponding slot in the slide.
If there was/is a M48 in 22LR, I want to find it. But Unicorns are out of season.

I assume you have a takedown button that actually works! I went through 4 takedown buttons from different Bryco/Jimenez products and never did find the correct one.

The 48 is sort of strange. Its got a very long magazine and a very slender grip. It seems as if it would carry well because its so thin, but it may hurt the hand while shooting because there isn't much backstrap surface area.

I have a take down button that appears to work; it locks the slie in place. But for some unknown reason, I can't get the striker to cock even though I can pull the slide fully to the rear.

With the takedown button and firing pin out of the gun, try and see if the tail end of the firing pin fits inside the takedown button. Either the fittment isn't right or maybe the firing pin spring is getting bound up inside the channel. Weird stuff.

You were on the right track. It turned out to be the recoil spring. It wasn't seating fully into the recess in the frame due to a burr in the recess, took a couple of passes with a rat tail file and voila!
