I got a Haskell JS-45

Postby Flowmaster » Mon Jun 13, 2016 5:25 pm

I got a Haskell JS-45 over the weekend at the gun show. A woman walked up to the table I was working at wanting to sell the gun for cash. She said it was her uncle's and she inherited it. I wound up getting it for $75. Its neat that it has the proper box and manuals/paperwork. I just need to find a mag for it.

Sorry the pictures are so large, I'm going to have to resize them.

The gun was filthy. That's a good sign though, that means it at least worked at some point in the past. The firing pin isn't entirely straight, but it can only be noticed when spinning the firing pin in my fingers during cleaning. I bet it'll still work just fine once I find a magazine.

A magazine guy at the gun show looked through his bins and found one for me but he wanted $40 for it. Yeah, no. I didn't buy the mag there.

I'd call Hi Point. They have been known to sell mags for the old guns even in the last few years. No guarantees on the old ones but at least once in the last couple years I read about them selling someone an old pre Hi Point mag.

SWEET DEAL! If Hi-Point can't set you up with a mag, I'm not sure, but I might have a spare.

I've read online that people have been able to get as-new old mags directly from Haskell and Stallard for these old guns. I'll have to call them and ask. I saw on some forum that a guy paid just $15 for a mag for one of these old pistols.

There have been some mags on eBay and gunbroker in the past. Right now I'm looking at a couple on gunbroker priced at $25 and $30 each plus shipping. Even with shipping I'm still not at the $40 the guy wanted for the mag at the gun show.

Flow, I just went and checked, and I've got no additional Haskell mags. Stallard, yeah, Haskell, no. :(
Sorry about that.
Hi-Point is really good about mags and stuff like that, call them, and call at 8AM. There's only one person who answers the phone!

BTW - I posted your pics over on HPFF and said "a guy over on the Bryco-Jennings-Jimenez forum just got this"...

Here's an update and a bump to the top. I found a magazine for sale on gunbroker. I paid $19 for the mag plus $5 shipping from a guy in Georgia. The mag has a tiny bit of surface rust on it but I'm happy. It fits in the gun and I bet it'll work too. I will get back to you folks with a range report after I've shot it.

A bit late, but...

I got mags from HP for both a Haskell and Iberia some years ago, but it's a matter of whether they still have stock or not; they're not going to make any more. I also had luck using a cheap 1911 mag.

Glad you got a mag for it! The last time I got a Stallard mag, I was told something to the effect that "the owner has to make them". With Tom Deebs' departure from Hi-Point (and from this earth, may he rest in peace) -I'm not surprised that HP no longer supplies mags.
