Swap: Lorcin L380 for RG10s & H&R 922

Postby adam01364 » Fri Feb 16, 2018 7:24 am

I swapped a working Lorcin L380 for a RG10s and an H&R 922.

Both revolvers are C&Rs; the RG was made in 1962. More and more Saturday Night Specials are becoming C&R eligible, how cool is that?

The RG is fully functional (!!) but was missing the threaded rod (used to push out the casings) that goes into the cylinder pin, fortunately I had one in the parts box.
My first fully functioning RG10... wow. Not planning on shooting more than six rounds through it, so it should remain functional for the foreseeable future!

The H&R obviously needed a hand when we made the deal and had surface rust and lots of gunk in it. I used some Gunzilla and a cloth, and in spots added some 000 steel wool to clean it up. It came out pretty well. Using information from the Internet (left to the gun world by the late Bill Goforth and Jim Hauff, may they both RIP) it's a Fifth Variation 922, and the very low "A" prefix serial number would seem to indicate it was made circa 1940. The cylinder numbers match the gun, and the brass front sight is original as well. Other than the broken hand (which I can see floating around inside the gun) not advancing the cylinder, it works well in double action. The trigger in single action is exceptionally touchy, but does work as well. :)

I'm very pleased with the deal. Below are the "before" pics.

<EDIT> I just tested these with .22 short blanks. They work just fine! :)

Trading a Lorcin for anything else means you got the better deal, by far. :D
congrats.

The grip on that H&R is huge.

It is huge so as to tame the massive recoil those produce and get back on target for a needed follow up shot.

What's really odd is that the frame underneath is very small.

Nice score! Yeah, looks like Jim Waldorf may have designed the grip frame on that H&R.

I usually see the RG10S with a longer barrel than yours. The longer barrel ones have a front sight that's a shroud around the barrel at the tip and has a piece of metal going along the top of the barrel almost like a vent rib. Yours has an RG10 style barrel and the front sight I usually encounter on an RG10, interesting stuff.

rg10s have endless variations LOL. They seem to be thrown together with whatever was there. I wonder if the employee got to chose when putting them together. Cool little guns when they work. I wish there were all steel ones out there that held up internally. They are fun plinkers and very small but not so small they are hard to shoot like the NAA revolvers. Only quality guns I can think of in this range of size and shootability are ruger bearcats but they are a bit longer.
