Liberty 21 same as Clerke First?

Postby Flowmaster » Tue Feb 26, 2019 9:27 pm

I was looking at SNS revolvers and came across what I thought was a Clerke. It turned out to be a German-made Liberty 21. It looks like a Clerke.

What do you folks think? Maybe Clerke made them stateside post-1968?

It sure looks like my Clerke. I'll bet you are right; pre '68.
Interesting enough, when I searched under Liberty 21, I found a one place that said the Liberty 21 was made by Herbert Schmidt (which I kind of doubt, but anything is possible). Here's one of them: http://www.egunner.com/herbert-schmidt- ... on_details

And then there's this: https://www.gunsamerica.com/926495361/G ... 1970-s.htm
Clerke "LIBERTY 21" DA 6-shot .22LR revolver w/2" rifled barrel. This is the true Saturday-Night Special. Action works fine. The cylinder pin is pulled out to be used to eject the spent cases. Produced in Germany (marked on the trigger) in the 1970's for export to the USA. Imported by Clerke Technicorp, Santa Monica, CA.

Herbert Schmidt did have a model 21 "Liberty Scout" model which was a single action 22. Maybe just a similar name to the Liberty 21?

My brother got on of the Herbert Schmidt revolvers. It functions OK but the thing doesn't come close to shooting straight! Oh boy if my research yielded anything about Clerke it's like the least safe revolver because of how soft the metal was on the frame. Was that true or internet BS?

It's "the pot" of pot metals.
