Sundance parts interchangability

Postby Flowmaster » Thu Aug 15, 2013 1:31 pm

Quick question for ya.

The people I help out sometimes have a customer looking for Sundance parts. I didn't get the info whether he has an A25 or a Boa. He needs a firing pin and firing pin spring. Would Raven parts work for this gun? Maybe parts from a J22 or something? I used to have a Lorcin L25 and some Raven parts worked in that thing. The Raven firing pin is also used in either the Lorcin L380 or Davis 380, I don't remember which.

If the parts are unique to the Sundance, this guy might be up the creek. Can anybody tell me for sure? I'm not a Sundance expert.

I think Raven parts will most likely work. Many of the ROF manufacturers used basically identical firing pins and firing pin springs. Honestly though I'm not 100% sure on the Sundance because I've never seen one but I know that the Lorcin L25 and Raven use the same firing pin and spring. It is pretty likely that the Sundance does as well.

I think Kiln is right, but I'll check my SNS tonight and post my findings.

Just checked Sundance Parts Kits on Gunbroker; the same bidder "Bersamax" is bidding on all the parts kits that have internal parts
He's also included an auction run by that clown in Chandler AZ who has all his parts mixed up and mis-identified.

Wait til he wins and gets Raven and who-knows-what parts

Flowmaster: The parts are unique to the Sundance A25. BUT you can modify the Raven F/P to fit, and the Raven F/P spring will work- barely.
The Sundance takedown button doesn't have the cocked indicator hole. Therefore none of it's kindred SNS F/P will drop in. Also, all the SNS firing pins are slightly different. But the Raven is very close.

To test it, I took a Raven F/P, F/P spring, and takedown button and installed them into the Sundance A25. Although the Raven takedown button didn't really fit correctly, it fit well enough to allow me to cock and fire the Sundance repeatedly. I also checked the firing pins at the breech, and the two are a close match.

I then put the Sundance A25 takedown button and installed it over the Raven F/P spring in the slide. It worked. The only issue is the Raven spring diameter is larger than the Sundance, so the spring gets stuck on the Sundance takedown button and has to be eased off it to disassemble. I didn't see any other issues.

Oh, BTW: I checked the Firing Pins and springs to the following SNS:
Sundance A25
Raven Old style
Raven New style
Jennings J-25
Jennings J-22
Lorcin L25

Pics to follow.

No problem! :)

You can see that the area that engages the sear on the Raven F/P is less robust than the Sundance A25 F/P, but they engage the sear in the same location. The differences in the springs is apparent as well.

Here you can see that the Raven F/P protrudes almost the same as the Sundance F/P.

Flow: Tonight -after looking at LCP's recent score on Gunbroker and seeing the F/P had a cocked indicator and takedown button had a hole in it- I dug deep into my safe and pulled out my other Sundances. Both the Sundance BOA and Sundance Lady Laser have cocked indicators but my both my A25's do not.
This means if the customer has a BOA the Raven F/P and spring should pretty much drop-in. :D
