So, I enjoyed the Mossberg 151M(a) so much I decided to find the correct rear sights for it. Darn things are way expensive!
Ended up getting them anyway, but the thing is, they were attached to a Mossberg 151M(b) that is in gorgeous condition.
Best of all was the price: it set me back a mere $122 out the door. 8-)

So here they are together.

The bottom one is a 151M(a) -it has a steel buttplate and is wearing a scope since it's missing the rear sight.
The top is the 151M(b) with the correct factory sights. It's in much better overall shape.

For your viewing pleasure I've included a nosy little hairy critter in the picture.

Weren't those used as military training rifles at some point?

I wish. You're thinking of the Mossberg 42. The 42M(B) was a lend lease deal.

Amen to that!
I once sold a Mossberg 42 rear sight on Ebay; made enough to pay for the gun, buy the special scope mounts, and buy a new scope!
I left my other 42 with its stock rear sights, but wanted a scope on the box magazine version (to recreate my old 1960s groundhog buster).
There are some good source for replacement parts out there. Old parts and clones of old parts.
